Will this Easter have an impact upon your life? Too often we pay a brief homage to the idea of the resurrection of Christ, but it has no real impact upon our lives. When Sunday is over, we go back to our self-indulgent living. The doctrine of the resurrection of Jesus Christ should change our lives forever. Easter is not just a day; it is a way of life. It is the cornerstone of the Christian’s faith. It is so central to everything we do that it should be the focal point of our worship throughout the year. It had such an impact upon the lives of the early church that they decided to change their day of worship from Saturday to Sunday. The resurrection changed everything for them. They were never the same after this historical event. The Apostle Paul said: “And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain…If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.”
Easter assures us that if we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and receive Him by faith, we will not die in our trespasses and sins, but we will be risen with Christ victoriously. When Julius Caesar (47 BC) returned from a successful battle, he often had a triumphal procession through the streets of Rome. The enemy officers, soldiers and their possessions were chained to Caesar’s chariot as a sign of humiliation and utter defeat. In the same manner, Easter describes Christ’s victory over the devil and his demons at Calvary. The Bible says: “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he (Christ) made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it” (Colossians 2:15). The scene is a striking picture of General Jesus leading his chained captives (Satan and his angels) behind Him in a victorious parade from the cross of Calvary.
Knowing that we as Christians have a victorious God should inspire us daily to live for eternity, and not for this world.
