CS Studd was a pioneer missionary who was born in England. He was well educated at Cambridge University…He was a famous cricket player who was converted to Christ at age 21 under the preaching of DL Moody (1884).
Charlie had everything that money could buy, he was a great athlete and many gifts, his father was very wealthy, but he still was unsatisfied in life…He began to realize that God’s call was on him for foreign missions.
At the very same time, God was also working in the hearts of 6 other Cambridge students…those 7 came to be known in church history as “THE CAMBRIDGE 7” They were all university graduates…2 were military commissioned men (officers), 2 were nationally known athletes, and all were wealthy and talented, like one was the son of a London surgeon and the caption of the Cambridge rowing team…But everyone of them felt led to abandon the comforts of London, and go to a foreign field to give out the Gospel. They dedicated their lives and wealth to Christ.
In 1885 , Charlie and the 6 others from Cambridge, the Cambridge 7 sailed to Asia to serve with China Inland Missions (Hudson Taylor’s board)…They would have been known today as “THE MISSION DREAM TEAM”. They were very popular in the states…people were amazed at their sacrifices and love for Christ.
As a result of their going to the foreign field, they inspired 100’s of missionary recruits for CIM and other mission agencies…
As a matter of fact, in 10 years, China Inland Missions went from
183 missionaries to 800 missionaries.
Just because 7 young men, college age, made a difference for Christ.
Doesn’t matter what status in life you’re in…you can make a difference for Christ today! |
