"And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God" Revelation 21:3
God dwelling with men. What an awesome truth! Through the millennia, the promise of God's literal dwelling with His people has been a source of great comfort and encouragement to believers. The Feast of Tabernacles, as with all of the seven feasts of Israel described in Leviticus 23, has prophetic importance that points to a literal fulfillment in Messiah. When Jesus Christ was transfigured before His disciples, Peter must have immediately thought of this feast and offered to make three tabernacles (Heb., "sucahs") for Jesus, Moses, and Elijah (Matt. 17:1-4).
This year, Sukkot or the Feast of Tabernacles was celebrated on October 7-12. And while building "succahs" remains an integral part of the celebration, it has long lost its prophetic significance - the coming of Messiah to dwell with His people. The Jewish people, blinded to the truth of God's Word, are unable to see beyond the temporal workings of the law of God designed to point them to Himself. It is our prayer that, as believing friends, neighbors, and acquaintances of Jewish people, we might share with them the truth that God is coming to dwell with those who by faith have placed their trust in Jesus, the Messiah.
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on THee: because he trusteth in Thee." (Isa. 26:3)
