Music Philosophy
All music used in the various ministries of Harvest Bible Church, whether live or recorded, vocal or instrumental, congregational, small group or solo, must be music that reflects, in whole or in part, but never contradicts, the nature of God: His holiness, righteousness, verity, mercy, grace, love, and benevolence.
In addition, the music used in worship services must be distinctly Christlike. Christlike music is “music in which text, music, performers, and performance practices are conforming to the image of Christ.” (Tim Fisher, The Battle for Christian Music). Music that is Christlike will never be unscriptural, worldly, carnal, irritating, weakening, disorderly, or sensual.
Therefore, Harvest Bible Church explicitly rejects the music styles of rock, blues, jazz, country, big band, rap, and any other past or future styles which are inherently un-Christlike. We also reject all “contemporary Christian music” (CCM), that is, sacred music written or performed in these styles.
